Samsun has become an energy base thanks to region's position in the energy sector. It is a multi-energy centre with proximity to rich energy sources and international commercial relations.

Natural gas from Russia reaches to Samsun, and from here to Turkey, with the Blue Stream pipeline under the Black Sea.Approximately 380 kilometres of 1.200 kilometres of natural gas pipeline passes under the Black Sea. The underwater pipeline is 2.140 meters deep, the deepest pipeline on earth. Turkey has been receiving gas since the end of 2002 from the pipeline which has an annual capacity of 16 billion cubic meters.

 

Natural gas combined cycle power plant established in Terme District, began to meet about 3% of the electricity need of Turkey since 2013. Turkey's first single-shaft combined cycle natural gas plant with a capacity of 887 MWe, is also one of the most environment friendly power plants of Turkey with its sea water cooling system.
